selected cruises
Weddell Sea, Antarctica
Dec 2022 - Jan 2023
Sampled terrestrial freshwater systems on geologically diverse Antarctic islands for dissolved methane, carbon dioxide, and stable carbon isotopes to understand the Antarctic’s changing role in the global methane cycle. Designed self-led study on cruise of opportunity.
Southampton, UK
May 2021
Deployed two BGC-Argo floats and ran oxygen samples to calibrate assets on the NASA
EXPORTS campaign (Chief Scientists: David Siegel, UCSB, Craig Lee, UW)
Hudson River, NY
Aug 2020
Deployed a bottom lander and completed two spatial surveys of dissolved carbon dioxide and methane to study tidal estuarine carbon dynamics (PIs: Malcolm Scully, WHOI, David Nicholson, WHOI, and Anna Michel, WHOI)
Irminger Sea, Greenland
July-Aug 2019
Part of an NSF-funded ancillary project studying variability in the Irminger Sea biological carbon pump (lead scientist: Dr. Hilary Palevsky, Boston College). Assisted in deployment and recovery of Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) Global Irminger Array assets (surface and subsurface moorings, Slocum gliders, hybrid profilers). Field deployment of a prototype dissolved gas sensor developed by William Pardis and Beckett Colson (Anna Michel lab, WHOI)
Gulf Stream, Northeast Shelf
June-July 2019
JP Student Cruise aboard a brigantine sailing vessel. Sampling and processing for general oceanographic parameters (hydrographic casts, net tows, pH and nutrient processing)
Emphasis on operation of the sailing vessel
Palmer Station, Antarctica
Jan-Feb 2019
Sampling and processing for environmental microbiology/biogeochemistry component of the Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) study area
